Marketing Expert Temilola Agbede Breaks Down Social Media Growth for Small Businesses

This month’s webinar was a goldmine for small business owners looking to scale through social media.

Led by seasoned marketing leader Temilola Agbede, the session went deep into practical, sustainable strategies that actually move the needle—especially for small teams with limited resources. Temilola is a marketing powerhouse with over 15 years of experience helping direct-to-consumer (DTC) brands scale from $10 million to over $100 million. Her secret? Sustainable, data-driven strategies that lower customer acquisition cost (CAC), increase loyalty, and build marketing engines that actually convert. In this session, she shared that knowledge with The Folklore community—specifically tailored for small brands, small teams, and growing e-commerce businesses.

Choosing the Right Social Media Platform

From Instagram to TikTok to Pinterest, the conversation unpacked how to choose the right platforms, build content that resonates, and, most importantly, turn followers into loyal customers.

One of the biggest mistakes early-stage brands make is trying to be everywhere at once. Temilola encouraged founders to start by focusing on where their audience already is—and how their product fits into the culture of each platform.

Here’s how she broke it down:

  • Instagram: Ideal for visual-first, lifestyle brands. Great for building community, brand identity, and aesthetic-driven storytelling.

  • TikTok: The organic growth potential is unmatched. Perfect for showing personality, tutorials, behind-the-scenes content, and unfiltered moments that feel real.

  • Pinterest: Often overlooked, but incredibly effective for product discovery, especially in niches like fashion, home decor, beauty, wellness, and food

Pro tip from Temilola: It’s better to go deep on one platform than spread yourself thin across five.

How to Plan & Repurpose Content Like a Marketing Pro

Another gem from the webinar? Content doesn’t need to be constant—it just needs to be strategic.

Temilola recommends starting with one strong piece of “pillar” content and then breaking it down across platforms to multiply your reach without increasing your workload.

For example:

  • A TikTok “pack an order with me” video can become a Reel or Story on Instagram.

  • A product demo on Instagram can be turned into a Pinterest pin with a shopping link.

  • One blog post can turn into a carousel post, a quote graphic, and a talking-point TikTok.

This system not only saves time—it also builds consistency across platforms, helping customers recognize your voice wherever they scroll.

Turning Social Media Followers into Loyal Customers

Visibility without conversion = wasted effort. That’s why this session emphasized the importance of turning passive viewers into active shoppers.

Actionable tips Temilola shared:

  • Use clear, confident calls to action in every caption or video.

  • Answer common customer objections before they have to ask.

  • Make it easy to click through: optimize your link in bio, Pinterest descriptions, and Instagram Story links.

  • Tap into social proof—highlight reviews, UGC, and real-life results in your content.

Real brand examples:

  • A candle brand used TikTok to show the pouring and packaging process, resulting in a viral video and a completely sold-out launch.

  • A fashion startup created “how to style” guides on Pinterest, funneling thousands of clicks directly to their website—and boosting sales in the process.

Final Thoughts

This wasn’t just a webinar about social trends. It was a masterclass in building intentional, scalable marketing strategies tailored for small business owners and independent brands. Whether you're just launching or looking to level up, the key takeaway was clear:

Know your audience. Show up with purpose. Repurpose with intention. Sell with confidence.
